Next year the World Series of Golf will be in Las Vegas and it is going to cost $200,000 just to enter. The payout for the winner is $1.5 million. Amazed? So were we. We though it would be hard to find 25 people to pay up that kind of money just for an entry fee - but the organizers of the event are more confident.

Pete Dye is considered to be one of the most influential golf course architects in this day and age. He has designed four courses for the Kohler Co – which will be formally given a position in the World Gold Hall of Fame on November 10th. Dye was chosen to win the Lifetime Achievement Category.

Both Andy North and Tom Watson worked hard to make sure that they were able to attain when they wanted. Throughout most of the game they were edged by Jeff Sluman and Craig Stadler by only a stroke this weekend during the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf.

Aussie Peter O’Malley was able to perform well and play an almost perfect round - which allowed him to capture the lead at the finish of the first day of the BMW Asian Open. It has been seven years since O’Malley has won on the European Tour. Could this be his chance to regain his glory? “I played really well… I can’t really fault anything today,” said the 42-year-old after his round of 67.

Watching the Masters this week was not as predictable as many of us believed it to be. We thought for sure that the all time champion –Tiger Woods – would be the obvious winner – but there was a slight change of plans and the event took a different turn. Woods came in second place with Trevor Immelman coming in first and taking home the cup.

Johnson Wagner was having a hard time playing at Redstone during the Houston Open and he knew that he would never be able to beat his past course record at the first tee shot. The good thing is though that his game wasn’t completely off. Wagner shot a 9-under 63 in windy conditions on Thursday to match Adam Scott’s new record and share the first-round lead. Charley Hoffman was two behind the leaders after a 65 and Steve Stricker was three back. Phil Mickelson, one of several top players using Houston as a tuneup for next week’s Masters, shot a 72 in the afternoon, when blustery wind produced higher scores.

Tiger Woods secured his sixth tournament win during the Arnold Palmer Invitational over the weekend. Woods won after he took a chance shot and sunk a putt that was 20 feet away with his five-iron. Not only was Woods excited – but his fans and the crowd were overjoyed and amazed. Somehow though they knew he had it in him.

Tiger Woods did a great job at the Buick Invitational by knocking everyone else off the board and taking home the victory. He hit some rough patches to begin with – but by the 18th hole he was showing everyone up. He now has secured a third straight PGA Tour victory that ties him in fourth place with Arnold Palmer. “I’m sure that there are many, many more coming in the future,” Palmer said. “There isn’t any question about that.”

In golf we usually remember the golf players – but there was a popular golf caddie that made an impression upon fans and the players that he has worked for. Steve Duplantis was upbeat and had a way of bringing out the best attitude in each of his players. We are sad to lose someone like him in the world of golf. This week he was killed after being run over by a taxi while he was crossing the street.

There are certain things that shouldn’t be said no matter how much you can’t stand that person. Kelly Tilghman hasn’t grasped this concept and shocked the golfing world when she stated that many of the young players should “lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley.”
